Top Play-to-Earn Games to Get You Through Lockdown

COVID sucks. There is just no way around it. If you find yourself living in a place where full or partial lockdowns are in effect, you may be spending more time at home. What better way to spend this time than to delve into games where you can earn real crypto, join growing communities and have fun along the way.

The concept of play-to-earn (P2E) is a nascent and growing trend at the intersection of games, NFTs, and Defi. Check out some of the brands that are well-positioned to capitalize on this growing phenomenon.

Upland

Upland is a property trading metaverse connected to real world addresses. Essentially, the real Earth mapped to the metaverse. The ecosystem is powered by EOS blockchain and has 100,000+ users and $200,000 in 30-day volume.

The project is currently in an open beta (web, ios, Android) where users can buy virtual property linked to real addresses, participate in treasure hunts, and compete in live events. The

Alien Worlds

Alien Worlds is a WAX and Binance Smart Chain project with a tremendous 1.56 million users and around $25 million of 30-day transaction volume.

In this alien NFT Metaverse, users play with and win unique digital items (NFTs). You earn what’s called “Trilium” to gain power in the Planet Decentralised Autonomous Organization. The basic gameplay centers around NFT game cards that are used for mining, fighting, and missions.

Axie Infinity

Axie Infinity is perhaps the most well-known P2E game, bringing this concept to the mainstream. This game boasts a whopping 2 million daily users, with a total sales volume of over $2 billion. These numbers fluctuate, and according to DAppRadar, they’re currently at around 850,000 users with $1.45 billion in 30-day volume.

Many of its players are in the Philippines, a developing Southeast Asian nation, with a daily minimum wage of just around $10. Therefore, while the average income in the game of $400 a month may seem insignificant in the west, it’s a significant sum to many.

Splinterlands

Splinterlands is home to over 600,000 users and just under half a million dollars in one-month transaction volume. While not as well-known as Axie Infinity, Splinterlands is another popular P2E game where players are easily earning $100+ a month. That said, early players made north of $12,000 from their initial input of $10.

That’s quite a difference to traditional AAA titles, where players pay north of $60 for the privilege to pay, followed by further in-game payments that don’t come with real rewards.

In Splinterlands, you’ll use the battle system to find an opponent with a similar level of experience, and battle them to win.

Bomb Crypto

Bomb Crypto has nearly $200 million in 30-day transaction volume, across over 342,000 users.

Bomb Crypto is a retro-style NFT pixel game where you can farm crypto, manage bomber heroes, explore a virtual world, and defeat monsters and bosses.

CryptoMines

CryptoMines has just over 300,000 users and nearly half a billion dollars in 30-day volume. In this SciFi space adventure, you create a fleet to go on expeditions and raids, complete with workers and spaceships.
